CNC Lathe
CNC machines work by rotating the work piece (barstock, forging, slug, etc.) and moving the cutting tool along the desired cutting path. The high velocity impact of the tool and work piece then “shears” material off the part to form the desired shapes. Operations include turning, boring, drilling, milling, reaming, threading, knurling, grooving, trepanning, etc. For live tooling, the part is stopped from rotating in the collet and the tool then has the rotating action to cut the material.
